Just an update: The tape worked wampa! I had to double up the thickness to get the pillar to the same level as the old stuff used by Benz but no problems so far. Getting the sealer/ adhesive off the body of the car was a pain but I got it. It didn't adhere anywhere to the plastic pillar which is why it blew off eventually. Just made an 800 mile round trip in snow and rain and the 3M tape is holding up just fine. Got to love this Forum!!!

2001 ML 320 Sport Pkg.
Sand them down and paint them flat black. I made the mistake of buying new ones for $114/panel.
