This summer, I have started to hear some chattering sound from the center A/C vents..does anyone know what this could be?

I am suspecting a stuck dry leaf or something of that sort...but to confirm that I need to access the fan, does anyone know how to get to the fans behind the vents?

i have a chatter also but it is not leaves. does yours change with the fan speed?

I have this only on high. I turn it down to 3 and it goes away. I am not too worried or I would have looked into it more.

And also it goes away after a while....it only does it on a cold start when set to anything above speed 1.

It'll go away after about 5-7 minutes of running...It also started occuring only recently, this summer in the last 1K miles or so..I have 80K miles on the ML...

What is it, anyways? Does anyone know?

If leaves are the culprit (it was for me), and you can check this in a few minutes, you access the fan by dropping the panel under the glove box. I'm not recalling all the details, but you will see the fan residing up under the glove box, and you can drop it with a couple fasteners, clean the filter and vacuum out the fan. Should take care of you if that's the issue.
