As far as I know Mercedes plans four diesel models - the E-class, M-class, G-class and new R-class and they may come as early as 2008 in the version for all 50 states (with SCR and urea AdBlue injection into the exhaust), and maybe earlier by 2006 as a 45 states version. All using the new OM642 3.0 liter V6.

thanks wolfgang,
do you think it would be worthwhile waiting for this engine to come out?and is it going to have any type of injection, something like the 350 cdi,l would want some sort of acceleration abilities especially carrying such a heavy body!!

Shawn, the ML320 CDI is pretty zippy, just 0.2 seconds slower to 60 than the ML350. Uses third generation direct injection with piezo injectors and is definately one of the more interesting new engines coming from MB. Not sure if it's worth waiting, since it may take some time until it comes out in all 50 states. At the earliest in 2008.
