Unhappy Ideas for lack of lights....

Here's a new one. The other night I went out to run an errand, and when I turned on the headlights the outside temp, mileage, and clock went dark. No cluster lights or switch lights, the MCS was normal. When you turn on the interior lights the temp etc, come back on. But then go off when you turn off the interior lights. The gauges ,speedo, and tach work. Any ideas? I'm taking it
in Monday, the SA says he's never heard of anything like it, and thinks it might be the instrument cluster.
Thanks for any help.

have you tried turning up the brightness on your instruments? if you turn the milage rest counter left or right it will decrease and increase brightness and on my car the lowest setting it will turn all lights out but the MCS will not change brightness. but it sounds like you have a bulb out. my car did this once and the night before it was to go in for service everything started to work just fine and hasn't given me trouble since.

Red face Duh.....

Thanks so much. Man, do I feel like a dumbass. That was it, when I reset the trip odometer the other day I must have twisted it accidently, turn it and presto lights everywhere. Thanks again.

Does this apply to all the MLs? my 2001 ML320 is in the shop, but the instrument cluster has been incredibly dark and i cannot find a way to brighten it...
