To Nerf Bar .... Or Not to Nerf Bar - That is my Question.

I got some OEM chrome ones and am debating putting them on.

It's my wife's car and we have two kids in car seats.

I really need opinions please from those of you with bars or running boards. Do you find yourself using them?

Also I got an OEM Bull bar will the big hella lights. Should I put that on or not? Hmmm. I am not sure if I want to interfere with the "Sport" front end.

Before it was a question of the guard, now the nerfs too?

It is going to be 50/50. Some love 'em, while others hate 'em. It is 100% personal taste.

I myself, work for a company that manufactures that stuff (not for MBs though) and I just get sick of looking at it everyday. Every piece of paper that floats across my desk has a nerf bar, grille guard, mud flaps, bed rails etc on it. I like to "plain" out my vehicles the most I can.

While the people we bought the ML from our sick to see it without the nerfs and guard on and thinks it doesn't look near as nice as before.

Opinions vary. Do what you and/or your wife like.

There kinda like your appendix. Once upon a time it might have been useful on 4X4 with high ground clearance, but your ML is easy to get in and out of to begin with (at least for me and I am 5'7"). Unless your putting them on for cosmetic purposes. That's an entirely a different decision making process.

Running boards - great for kids

I have running boards and my daughter could climb up and into her carseat from 2.5 yrs of age. In other words, I use them all the time. Only downside is: mounting brackets severely reduce ground clearance. For city driving you will find them very practical. Personally, I find running boards look better than chrome sidebars.

The OEM bull bar looks really mean but the big extra lights may be too much. Sometimes less is more. Some people like to apply stuff to their cars like a Christmas tree - you need to decide what your style is.

I am too embarrassed to say even with a substantial “discount”.

What is retail on them? I guess I never knew they were that expensive. I was thinking tops in the $1200 range or so. Oh well, I do like them though, and they will protect the rocker panels from rock chips better than anything else.

My only recommendation would be to apply the "clear bra" to the leading edge of them if you don't have mud flaps.

we have the oem chrome ones on the sides and the brush grille w/ piaa fogs in the front. I like the look, it gives it a "sportyish" look to it. i'd say go for it

I have some pics (don't have them on my work computer tho) I could post if you'd like to get an idea.
