Broken Mirror Frames
Backing out the garage, the surrounds of both mirrors on my 1998 ML 320 have been cracked. It's just the moulding on the back of the mirror that is cracked: the main part of the assembly, where the mirror is actually mounted, is fine.
The dealer will only sell the entire assembly for more dollars than you'd believe. Is it possible to buy just the trim piece somehere?

I went through the same thing...I couldn't find any...I know it's painful....as I remember they broke it down into three components: the glass itself, the mirror housing assembly, and the mounting bracket and motor assembly...I had to buy all three

My UK dealer sold me these, pre-sprayed, for about $50 a piece. Your dealer is being an A$$hole. It was on a MY2000 car with painted mirror backs.
I suppose the mY1999 mirror could be different to the 2000 mirror, but I doubt it. Of course, MY2002 is completely different
What colour is your car (please send me the paint code), i'll ask the dealer for the part numbers when Im there in the next few days
Then U can phone round. Perhaps you should PM me, as I dont tend to read the 163 forum

Ok, dug out the details
There are two plastic parts, the frame (always black), and the rear cover (color matched on certain cars)
Frame: -
Left A163 811 01 35
Right A163 811 02 35
Housing
Left A163 811 01 60 XXXX
Right A163 811 02 60 XXXX
The XXXX is the colour code.
For non non-color matched :-
deep dark grey 7167
For body coloured ones,
body colour code ... mirror colour code
040 9040
149 9141
189 9189
272 6272
366 5366
486 8486
567 3567
Id (a) put body coloured ones on, and (b) just ask your dealer for the parts costs for those parts.
The info about these parts is in the same section as the whole mirror, so he was being obtuse.
