Radio problems

My wife and I think our recently purchased 2003 ML350 is great, but the volume on the radio/CD player fluctuates constantly. Anyone have a simple (inexpensive) solution to this problem?

If its the same as the one I had in my 02 ML500 with the Bose system it has a sensor that raises the volume with ambient noise called audio pilot. I and most of the other people have had this turned down to the minimum setting by the dealer as it is quite annoying. It can't be turned completely off and the min setting makes it acceptable, at least to me.
