TO ALL THAT helped me with my radio and the radio code thanks alot.. i got it taken care of but now my navi doesnt seem to know where i am. also i think another reason can be that my disc is really scratched. but it worked previously. #1 can i burn this disc and #2 how can i reset my navi so it can callibrate where i truly am? thanks guys

Do you have a green satellite icon in the reception box or does it have a red X through it (the little white box upper left side of the screen)? If it is green, you are supposed to stay parked in one place - with full sky view to the south - with the car on for up to 15 minutes to allow the system to calibrate itself (although truthfully I have never seen it take more than 5 minutes).

um the only box i see on that left side is black and it has a white bar looks like a minus symbol going thru it. any ideas

Well, it is about 1/2" square in the top left corner of the map screen area and should have a green colored symbol in it that kind of looks like a bow-tie with 3 dashed lines underneath the bowtie looking thing (this is supposed ot represent what a satellite in orbit looks like above the earth). If it is green then it is receiving a signal, if it is white and has a red X through it then it is not. Not sure whether they all do the red X or not. There is a screen in the setup you can go to to see how many satellites it is receiving (punch around through there somewhere til you find it) You should be receiving at least 3 for it to work, and usually mine is receiving 8.

Is this a DVD system or CD system? I guess even if the satellite indicator is green if the cd were scratched in the area that has your area's map info that it would not work. You should be able to copy it. It is a dual layer DVD I think if you have the dvd version. You can search on here or benzworld for the steps to copying it to a new disk. Or you might try to take it to the local gamestop and let them polish it on their machine for you. I have had success on CD's with that, not so much with DVD since the data is so much finer ingrained on DVDs.

its a cd system maybe becuase its scratched it cant read it properly. What program can i use to copy this navi disc and can i use any blank CD layin around?

Now that I don't know. DO a search on here and on Benzworld dot org forums for navigation cd copying. There has been talk of copying CDs on one or the other forums before and if the directions are not there you might be able to PM someone who has done it to find out. I'm sure it would need to be a true CD-R or CD+R (not CDRW). You might simply try it with something like Nero cd copy or Roxio CD copy - whatever your burner came with.

Heres a pic of the navi screen that box youre talking about is there but it looks like a bar with a dot in the middle. its black and the linde and dot are white. i did burn the disc and its reading it now thank god! it was before but only when it wanted to lol. also im getting 4 satellites anyways heres tha pic.. pretty good for a cell phone

What map data version is the cd you are using (2001, 2002, 2004?)

i think its 2001 since the car is a 2000 also i made a copy but thanks for the offer

OH. Well there's your problem. The 2000 and 2001 map cd's had VERY and I do mean VERY VERY VERY limited data in them - almost unuseable. It is no wonder your system doesnt know where you are. In those disks there were only 20 cities in the whole state of Arkansas covered and none of them were main cities including not even the state capitol of Little Rock. I am not sure why they chose the cities they did in those versions for Arkansas (small towns with popoulations of about 100 with 10-15 streets and that was it - I almost think they were just test data sets or else places the map tracker people stopped for coffee along the interstates and main state highways). When I updated mine to the 2004.1 disk all of a sudden it knew where I lived, had all the streets for my town (which previously had me driving out in open fields) and all the other streets for the rest of the cities in my state. You need to get yourself on Ebay and get a 2004.1 CD for your region ASAP. I think that will fix your problem.

Just looked back at your screen pic. Thats what my old 2001 data looked like - just main state highways and interstates with no city street data at all. If I got more than about 1/2 mile away from a state highway it was just a nice white screen all the time showing nothing. 2004.1 is the latest CD data set, NYC area uses region 7 disk I think, but you may be farther north or west and be in a different region. Get whatever region your current cd says it is.

no no i know where its located at cuase its where i was the other night... where can i get a new disc btw? ebay is one thing anyone on the forums have them located in or near ny?

Look in the classifieds on here, benzworld, and mercedesforum. I have seen cd's in all of them recently, just not sure if they are for the MCS ML - only those specifically for the ML MCS system will work, so don't buy anything for any other MB vehicle. On Ebay they run about $40 each for the 2004.1 version regional CD's.

Also, what I was getting at on your picture, is were you actually out in a field? It shows you off the main highway a little ways to the right, so you were either out in a mall parking lot or off on a side street that isnt showing. Or on a side street or rural road somewhere? If you were on a road or street then it should show the road or street on the screen. My old 2001 CD looked like yours when I was on a side street, but after upgrading to 2004.1 it actually has all the streets and side roads on it now.

when i took that i was in my drive way but the map said i was somewhere else. and thats why its showing like that but my driveway and the area around me doesnt look like that.

Hmm. Well that sounds like it doesn't know where you are then. Normally the white satellite icon you see if green with 3 hash marks underneath it when it is receiving a good signal, however if it says you are receiving 4 satellites then it is at least receiving something. Mine generally always says 8. I would order a 2004.1 upgrade CD, which will also upgrade your firmware at the same time, then see what it shows. Once you put the new CD in, you are supposed to be parked in the open with a clear view of the southern hemisphere and let it calibrate itself - which they say can take anywhere from a couple to 15 minutes.

eBAY has several, and there are numerous ads on this very forum in the classifieds selling them individually. You are looking for an ML MCS 2004.1 Region 7 cd (or at least I imagine region 7 since you are somewhere in NY, but you might want to look at the old one just to make sure it is region 7) On ebay they run around $40, not sure what the people selling them in here are asking for them.

Anyone selling a CD for him who might want to make him an offer?

Your pic is showing that you are not recieving any satelite signals. Thats why it does not know where you are.

I would check the antenna and make sure all connections at the antenna are tight and there is no water in the antenna. I had a simular problem way back... and I fixed it by replaceing the GPS antenna.

My initial thoughts were the antenna as well, but he says he is receiving 4 satellite signals. I have noticed on my ML that it has 3 indicators for the satellite - green, white, and red X. I am guessing on mine that Red X means none, white means poor/medium and green means good? I have seen all before when driving through dense forest areas of the state. Mine has been upgraded to the newest firmware though so maybe in the older ones white means no signal.

You need to be connected 7 satelites If I remember correctly for your nav to be accurate.
