Whining noise.

My ML is whining and so am I. Hard to describe – the kids think it sounds like an ambulance although obviously not that loud. Does not sound like a belt; if I had to guess it would be from the transmission (scary). The noise is more noticeable when decelerating than accelerating and nonexistent over 60 mph. It is definitely related to the speed of the vehicle and is not always present. Any clues?

check your power steering fluid... that is a common whine on MLs in cold climate areas. Power steering resevoir is to the right of your oil filter... Check it and top it off according to the dip stick
