MB ML 320 2001
Steering Pump Seal leak and ruptured hose

The nearest auto repair shop quoted me $1,300 for parts and labor to replace steering pump and a ruptured hose on my 2001 ML320. Is this a fair price? I asked the mechanic for a oem pump or a refurbished one to lower costs. Any idea how much should this repair be?
Thanks,

Sounds about $500 high to me. If you have any mechanical skills, this is an easy fix. You should be able to remove and replace the pump in a short Saturday morning.

Thanks,
I'll say this... my PS pump was leaking a month ago thought it was a recall fix..... but Dealer said I needed a new PS pump....$1500. Me knowing better... I Took it to my trusted mechanic. He found the bottom Ps hose was leaking and the ORing that seals where the PS reservoir connects to the PS pump was bad. It made the PS pump look like it was leaking at the seals. My mechanic charged me a whopping $150. I now have a dry PS pump... no leaks. try changing that Oring it is just a $6 part and the hose depending on which one is bad is about $20 or so + MB power steering fluid.

I too had a bad O-ring. easy fix. you can see if its leaking there by just looking in from the top of the resevior. try that first for sure!
