Question HELP! Bought ML320 at lease-end, need advice...

...2002 ML320... Lease ended, it's been VERY reliable, with almost no trouble... About 48,000 miles...

The original factory warranty expires tomorrow. I need to decide whether to take the extended warranty.

My MB dealership offers a complete bumpter-to-bumper warranty, for 2, 3, or 4 years. They say it's the same as my factory warranty, except for the $200 per-visit (not per item) deductible.

Cost: $3,300.

That's $825 per year, or $68.75 per month. Fully transferrable, or can cancel at any time and get a pro-rated refund.

I plan to keep the truck at least another 4 years.

My concern: So far, very little has gone wrong with this truck. I don't want to feel like a sucker in 4 years if I haven't gotten $3,300 worth of use out of it...

On the other hand: As the vehicle gets older, there's more likelihood of spendy repairs. And I know all about the complaints so many have had about problems with the ML's.

My experience has been so good, though, and my wife wanted to keep it (she really hates the new ML design). So I decided to hang onto it.

I'd appreciate opinions... In my position, already having purchased the vehicle, would you pay $$$ for a warranty like this?

Thanks!

Remember that extended warranties are insurance policies and are a profit center for the selling dealer. I, for one never buy an extended warranty on anything. I roll the dice and pay for any repairs out of pocket. Quite frankly I never have been wrong in any purchase I have made by doing this. My suggestion is do not buy and if the odds are on your side at the end you will be ahead of the game.

I always have stayed away from extended warranties..

Except my recent lease (first time leasing ever) on my new Subaru Tribeca...from my first leasing experience, I found, leases are easier to negotiate. I could get an extended warranty thrown in to cover the extra miles that I will be putting during the lease preiod for just about $10/month...

My 02 ML500 has about 49k mi and my factory warranty ended Dec of last year. I just bought the ML last year from an MB dealership and got the extended warranty from them too (no deductible) I'm actually glad I got the extended warranty 'cause just last month my power steering hose broke, they fixed everything under warranty including the tie-rod end which they found needed replacement. Like what was said earlier, warranties are like insurance policies, it's for piece of mind if you dont like spending on unexpected repairs.

Well, I would say that an extended warranty does pay off, these MLs do run into problems every now and then...I have an extended warranty and my plan is like the one you quote...$200 deductible, total bumper 2 bumper coverage...had some works done on it that I couldn't have afforded to pay for otherwise if I hadn't got the extended warranty so it does pay off!

If you could not afford to pay for the repairs and maint you are driving the wrong vehicle.Bet after the warranty ends, if you figure the deductable payments and the cost of repairs if not warrantied, you will have paid more for the warranty than if you had paid for the repairs in full. The odds are in favor of the warranty company.

Well, I can afford to pay my maintenance, but things do happen, IE the computer in our ML went out, to replace that would have cost us $3K! Instead with our extended warranty, all we paid was $200 deductible.

And no, just because I can't come up with a lump sum of $2-3k for repairs doesn't mean I'm driving the wrong vehicle. It's about options.

My 2 cents,

I just got a 2002 ML500 used from the a MB dealer, I was able to get three year extended warranty till 2/1/2009. I got it for $1,800.00. I have not heard of the $200 deductible, is that from benz? or aftermarket?

The one I got lets me bring it to any dealer in the US and other then bakes and wipers everything else is covered. How can you go wrong? If I am on a road trip no worries.....

I understand what alot of you mean, but after reading the following post https://mbworld.org/forums/m-class-w163/88443-list-stuff-watch-out-163-a.html I just could not see pasting on it.
