ML320 MY00 Trailer Hitch Question

Hi,

I will have to add the hitch to tow the camper and the Jetski soon (summer approaching).

I was looking at the hitch-based threads and noticed that kit comes with hitch, cables and two brackets. I am wondering what do the brackets do?

Any websites that sell aftermarket hitch that fits in the same slot? I like the factory look.

Many members modified the hitch cover (plastic) to have a clean look. Does Mercedes sell a cover that already has this cutout?

Any other aftermarket solutions? (besides the regular hitchs such as u-haul) For our ML's?

Buy the MB kit. It comes complete, including the proper wiring harness. The whole job should take you less than two hours, with the largest portion of time cutting the cover to fit.

I can't stand paying dealer prices, but after looking at all the hacked U-Haul jobs that are anything but factory looking, I decided to break down and spend the money.

I believe the brackets you are referring to the backing brackets that strengthen the whole thing up. The directions are quite clear.

Fortunately, I had a neighbor with an ML with the cover already hacked out. I say hacked out because the neighbor simply didn't get it and went to U-Haul to have his factory hitch installed. So I used his as a template and did a much nicer job. He then bought a new cover and I cut his out to match mine.

The kit came with a template for the cover, but it simply wasn't correct. I used a Dremmel tool.

Thanks, thats exactly the kinda information I was looking for. So did you buy from the dealer or from aftermarket (Mercedes OEM part from non-dealer)? and how much did you pay?

I figure if its around $200 for the factory its worth it.

Opinions? Comments?

I think I paid about 250 with the tax. And they threw in a nice black metal MB license plate frame.
