Auto Transmission Problem
The auto transmission on my 2002 August ML 270 Cdi "hangs" when I accelerate hard in the 1st or 2nd gear and release the accelerator before the gear can change. Then if I switch off the engine and start again the gear shifting is back to normal.
I got the oil and filter changed but the problem persists.
What could be the cause? How can I trouble shoot the problem?

i doubt it, is this right when u first start the car? Usually it will hang if u release the accelerator because the computer keeps it in 1st cuz it thinks u are about to get right back on the gas.

This hang up in 1st gear sounds a lot like the cold condition on the gas model. When the engine is cold, it holds 2nd gear for a while. Perhaps the diesel is more sensitive to cold conditions and there is a sensor problem? Esp since you say if you shut down and restart, all works well. Does your temp gauge work right?

I think you are right -- I never had this problem with the original chip. Will try it with the older chip.

Im located in New Delhi , India and the temp here is quite warm - 35 degrees - doubt if this is a temp problem.

Probably is the chip -- I only had this problem after I changed the it. Will re-install the original and see.
