ML320 Navigation Error

Hi y'all, when I bought my 2000 ML the dealer never gave me the CDs for my navigation system. I bought it used so he didn't have it and he said that he was going to get me some when he goes to the auction(s) next time. Well, anyway couple of weeks ago I stopped by at his place and borrowed one of his CD to check out my nav. When I inserted the CD in I can see the arrow moving as I drive my ride, however the background is just blue screen. I can also go in the menu and punch in the destination address and everything. Once you hit the ok after you put the destination address I got some kind of message saying that I needed to drive little more to find my location but it never did. I just hate to take it dealers because every time when I go there they at least hit me up with couple of bills so thought I ask my fellow board member here! :-)

I'm assuming that you are in a metropolitan area or where the CD actually has the map of your area? When there isn't map data you get the arrow on the bue screen (at least I do). My guess is that the car is not from your area and needs to reorientate itself. Just a thought.

There are many types of nav CD's, for each model and I believe model years. Perhaps you inserted a non compatrable CD. I would check that out before thinking your nav is inoperable.

Hi, yes I do live in metro area (Huntsville, AL)so it's not like I am in wood some where. The previous owner was from right around here too so not sure if I need that stuff that you are talking about but I am not expert so . I thought all the CDs were same for all the Models. You think I should could call the dealer and get the part number from them? The one I tried on look like it was burned CD but that same CD worked on the other ML that dealer had seating on his lot. Thanks!
