Whining sound + toc toc when driving

Whining sound + toc toc when driving
Hi,
The car is a 2002 Ml320 with 70k on it. All of this started this morning. When I drive the car, I can hear some whining and light toc toc toc sound. The faster I go, the louder the whine and toc sounds are. I cannot say from where, but i am almost certain it is coming from the front half of the car. Again, I might be wrong... The transmission shift perfect.When I put the car to low range the noise disappear.
Someone know what is wrong ?
