Cool Comand System

Greetings to all you ML'ers from here in deepest darkest Africa...lol.

Glad to finally find a site where I can pose all my seamingly impossible questions.

First one,

I have a 2000 ml500 complete with all the bells and whistles including the COMAND system. Now all the functions (Radio, CD, Sat-nav, Phone) work well but one (TV) does not. When I select that function it says ' TV not installed' .....now does this mean that the unit cannot display TV ?( wierd seeing as it offers the function) or is it some software that has not been installed ???

Any sort of advice or help would be appreciated.

Thanks

the non US spec commands have it as an option, you need to get the hardware to support it. Contact Bigsis or Mbenznl... they should be able to help you out

You need either a digital or analog tv tuner to go with your comand 2.0.

Here is the cheapest analog unit you can buy .... doesn't get any cheaper than this!

http://cgi.ebay.de/Mercedes-Benz-TV-...QQcmdZViewItem

Now for the installation ... I have done a writeup on this !.

I have done a detailed info guide on the harness (wiring to the comand) for the tv - tuner .

You have 3 options

1. Bug the expensive OEM one
2. Go to one of the Audio web stores I mentioned in the first reply
3. Make your own (buy the plugs)

Making your own harness

Connecting that TV-Tuner to the Comand.

My OEM TV retrofit cost me around 200 Euros,

...... If you get it done by someone else like steve or an audio shop you a looking at around 2000 Euros for the same thing!

All the info is listed here ... but I am happy to answer questions, or provide the full DIY!....

The only effort on your part is to feed wires from the dash to the tuner location (under the front seat - either passenger or driver) , and then the anntenna cables form the tuner to the rear luggage compartment windows!

(No big deal .... See the P3 forum for my WIS instructions of removing the various mouldings)

BMW FTW
2000 ML500( only made a ML430 the 500 didnt appear until 2002)? or 2002 ML500? Big difference in commands between a 2000 and a 2002 car.

Comand Head Unit

Huh, There is absolutley no difference in comand (notice the one "m") for the W163. Hving said that there are only 2 comand head units for the W163.

These 2 are "nocan" headunits which are mandatory for a ML. You can however make mods to other units to make them nocan .... I wouldn't recommend this though .... another option is to buy a "canbus" adapter and use that to imitate the canbus for the head unit.....

All of the above options are not really recommended as they make the whole proce of the setup too expensive. It is best to get a W163 unit. The unit with the partno "163 820 3689"

The US model is the same as the European one except that the TV button is not labelled.

If you want to enable TV whilst driving (the passengers watching - not you!) , then you need to enable it via the SDS computer software.... or a diag computer that can get to te comand.

PS: I also have an extensive writeup on this subject!.

Pleubner excellent write up, are you familiar with which TV tuner I can use for my CLS, I have purchased a Euro Comand unit, and I would like to add a digital TV Tuner preferably, which cables are needed for the digital tuner, or a analog tuner if I pick one up for a good price. Here is a pic of the digital tuner.

I have the tv tuner 2208200897 in my car, can this be converted so that I can watch digital TV in the car by buying a 12v in car digibox with antenna and power cable etc and just simply connecting it to the analog TV tuner?
