Hill Descent Control at highway speeds?

Hill Descent Control at highway speeds?
Just discovered a hidden/unknown function my ML430 performs. While traveling with cruise control engaged I began a descent down a long steep grade, as I began to pick up speed the ML downshifted once then twice (from Drive to gear 3) and then applied the brakes to bring the ML back to the speed I set with the cruise control.
I know the ML has Hill Descent Control but I did not know it was available at highway speeds. Has anyone else noticed this feature?

I didnt think the ML had hill decent. But for the cruise control almost all cars do that to slow you down. I don't actually thing the brake is being applied just a downshift and no gas to slow you down.

Not true...I have a 06 Subaru Tribeca and a 95 Maxima as my 2nd and 3rd cars..
I travel over mountains every weekend alternating between the 3 cars.
Neither does the 95 Maxima nor the 06 Tribeca upshifts to control speed during decent. Only my ML320 does that....
I can tell you one thing though...the Subaru Tribeca beats the ML320 in handling rough weather and snow driving for sure...superior AWD system..ah well, its a Subaru after all..
