1999 ML 320
Oil Consumption

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has found a solution for the high oil consumption my 99 ML320 has.

I've only had it for a couple thousand miles, it has 87K on it, but it seems to be burning about a quart every 1000 miles or so. I just added some Lucas but am wondering if there is anything else it could be.

Thanks

There's a TSB on it.

Don't forget your engine has a 10 year, 150,000 mile warranty on it due to the Mercedes-Benz oil suldge problem lawsuit if that should apply to your problem.

Azinn,

Could you please tell me more about this 10 year, 150k warranty? I currently own a '99 E320 but thinking of buying an '02 ML320 and am gathering as much info as I can before getting it.
Thanx much.

The 10 year, 150k warranty is for the early ML's only, 1998-2000. The suit against Mercedes, which they lost, had to do with the fact they came from the factory with regular oil in the engines rather than synthetic which lead to some oil sludge problems when going by the extended FSS oil changes. The 02 ML's would not have this warranty since they left the factory with synthetic oil in them.
