want to buy a used ML430

I went to my Dealer today looking for a used ML. He didn't have any 2000's. He had a few 1998 ML320's and a 1999 ML430. He wants $32,000 for the 1999 ML430. It has 25K Mi on it and is Black Opel, which I'm not sure I like the color. I was hoping to spend around $27-28K. Can I expect to get this truck for $27K?? I'm afraid to buy a used vehicle....what if everything goes wrong in a few months? Any feedback would be great. I test drove the 320 and the 430. The 430 feels more solid.....although they both felt "cheap" compared to my CLK430. The doors sounded like I was opening a tin can!! Very cheap feeling. I have to say I was a little dissapointed. I would like a 2000 but don't want to go above $30K for this truck. I am hoping to make a decision in the next week...as long as the dealership is willing to budge on price!

I'm thinking of selling mine...

Hello,
I have 1999 ML 430, prefect SUV I ever had. It has a skyview top, which the entire top slides off. I live in California though, so you know there no rust in this one :p

My ML is loaded, not sure what our looking for. Here's some pictures.

2002 ML320
If you want a good price on a used ML, the dealer is not a good place to get one. I have seen an '00 430 with 26k for $26500. If you are willing to spend about $30k or a little less you can even get a slightly used '01 ML320, or if you can go for the low 30's, a slightly used '02 320.

If you have decided against the 320 and to look for a 430, you can get a good '01 430 for around $30k.

Check autotrader.com and cars.com, as well as the other popular sites. AutoTrader is about the biggest site of its kind though.

So check them out and if you don't find anything good, I'll post some other good sources.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for the info. I am a little leary about buying from a private seller. I figured the dealer would be better....for service and whatever comes down the road. I was going to get the 1999 430 if the dealer is willing to go $27K. Am I still paying too much for a '99? I thought that would be a good price.

Thumbs up You can buy form a private seller

Remember that MB stands behind the car. The dealer just represents MB. You will get a better price from a private owner.

Red face Yep, better deal froma private owner

Dealers tend to get as much profit from you. It's true.
MB selling for 25k will go to 29k at a dealer but at a private owner will be 25k.
Look around you'll see.

If froma private owner try to see all the mechanical receipts, if any.
MB last a long time and you get great deals from the owners.

If it's not a MB Starmarked vehicle, you don't get any warranty. I say stick with anyone who'll give you anykind of warranty. These vehicles are great but quality is not one of their strongest suite. It's likely that something will go wrong so stick with dealer. Also, remember that MB is sending out rebate checks to owners of some of the earlier ML's due to the tons of problems they had. Stick with a MB dealer and buy a Starmarked vehicle.

It's a Midnight blue color

During the day it's dark Purple, and when the sun goes down it's midnight blue. It changes colors. It gives alot of character.

That's too bad...

I have a 1999 and haven't had ANY problems. It's the most beautiful ML 430 I ever brought..USED. I heard alot of problems witht the skyroff, but it's been the ultimate summer car, when the whole top comes open. I guess I have one of the luckiest most dependable, flawless 1999 ML 430 out there, maybe in the nation.

Too bad I have to get rid of it.
