Central Console Climate Lights Ml320

Jumped in car at night with the lights turned on to find that the Central Console Lights for the three dials that Control fan speed, heat and air flow have gone. All the other lights in the central console seem to be fine. Has anyone replaced or found out a way to fault test this problem? Would be interesting to know how to remove the central console in case a bulb or something else has blown. My ML320 is a 2000 model.
