Brake pad question for '01 ML320

Brake pad question for '01 ML320
I have a 2001ML 320 with 65,000 miles on it, I don't think that the brakes pads have ever been replaced.

My yellow wheel dash and brake light come on occasionally when I am stopped, fluid looks fine I am thinking it is the pads.

Any suggestions on what pads to get? Are the Axxis Deluxe Plus Brake Pads worth the price. Or should I go with wagner, akebono, mintex, etc.

Also is it a general rule that I need to get new rotors at the same time?

TIA for any help.
