Lots of oil related stuff

1) I want to try the siphon method to change my oil vs. pulling the plug. I'm too cheap to spend money on a Topsider, so I saw a cheap $12 siphon pump at the store and bought that, along with one of those big, red plastic containers. Has anyone used this setup successfully?

2) Also, what Mobil 1 oil should I be using? I think we've been using the 10W-40 or 5W-40...but I noticed my C240 uses 0W-40 so...

3) The dealership also told me I had a cracked oil pan and it would cost $200 to replace it, should I just do it myself? Is it easy to replace?

4) Lastly, for the first time I'm experiencing oil consumption problem...the light actually went on even though I've kept up with oil changes, and no sign of leakage...read some threads about this happening to MLs.

Siphoning cannot get all the bottom gunk out of a pan - I can't believe people do this or that Mercedes even recommends it. It can make a mess when draining the proper way (why do you think they put a drain plug on there in the first place?) but it's worth it to me. Or an even better solution that I have changed to is the http://fumotovalve.com/ with the nipple - attach a hose to it, open the valve and no mess!

$200 for an oil pan? That must be just the labor!

No leaks with a cracked oil pan??? Either its not cracked or your not looking too hard.
