1999 ML 430
![Question](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I'm getting ready to replace the OEM Dunlop tires, on my 99 ML430. After considerable research, I've more or less settled on the Michelin Cross Terrains in the 275/55/17 series, primarily because that's really what's available. I've looked at other size combinations, but since it's a leased vehicle, I have to think that a wrong size tire would cause some "aggresive behaviour" from MB Credit, come turn in time. They are expensive, but they seem to be the best of the available lot, in terms of snow performance. Any comments?

SIne my truck is leased too, I opted for the same Continental as they use onn a new ML500's. They are more hioghway tires then the old dunlop's (fine for me) and since this is what they use, can not be problem at the end of the lease.
Dirt cheap too, I paid 77USD/each at tire rack. Yes, it is a 275/55VR17 , so even better then a factory recommended HR rated dunlops. The ML500 has the V rated as it can go faster.

ML430 (used to, now X5 4.4.i)
About to do a t/change as well. T/rack offers the Dunlop 5000 for 105 at the moment. Probably a good deal and the right size.
I am still wondering if the Pirelli Scorpion Pzero would not make a better bet? I had them on a Jeep GC and they were pretty good.
Anyone have experience with both of these?

I have a 2003 ML500. The OEM are Dunlop Sport SP 5000, for what it's worth -- not Conti's. I have Conti's on my CLK and VW (both are OEM). I can't say enough BAD things about the Conti's except ..."cheesy tires, buyer beware."

I replaced the OEM Dunlops on my 99 ML 320 with the Cross Terrain. The Dunlops lasted 50K miles so I can't really say I didn't get my moneys worth out of them. The Cross Terrains have 12K miles on them and they show no real wear to speak of. They are definately better in the rain and snow than the Dunlops. The anit-lock brakes to not kick in as early as they did with the Dunlops. The Cross Terrains are certainly more expensive but I think they are worth it.

Regarding Conti tires, I had a set on a 300E, some years ago, and several of them went out of round - swore I would never have them again. Conti would do nothing about it. I ordered a set of Cross Terrains for the ML430, and will get them fitted next week.
