Hello,
I recently bought a 99 ML320 in Prague and had MB fix a couple of problems:
-fuel level indicator out (replaced), air mass meter (replaced) and automatic gearbox stuck in gear (1 euro plastic joint in connecting rod). 1000 euros in total. Whoa.
But now for something more difficult: when driving slowly (5 km/h) / pulling up (fwd and backward) rattling, cogwheel noises can be heard from underneath the vehicle. I suspect that they come from the transmission, more specifically from the part that engages Low Range. At higher speeds the sounds disappear / cannot be distinguished from other driving noises.
Performance is not affected, operation is normal, only it sounds really bad to someone outside the car.
I also own a '91 300TD (490.000 km), I do all the maintenance and repairs myself, so I'm not scared of any 'complicated' 'technical' explanations / solutions.
Suggestions, anyone?
