lowering my 2000 ml320

Hello all, I want to lower my ml320. I was wondering if there is a thread with a how to on the front torsion bolt. And some ideas of places and price for the rear springs. I know eibach makes them for the rear but its around $250 for the two springs. Also when lowering the ML do you have to replace shocks as well. I have 22's on the truck and just want to even the ride height and wheel well gap of the truck

Remember, you need springs to lower. And, yes, Wolfgang's page on this is where you wan to go; Here:http://www.whnet.com/4x4/ml_springs.html

H&R also makes them, and are more popular with members here - why? I don't know!!! Either way, both are progressive rate and are reputable manufacturers. Typically, H&Rs are more expensive, but that could just be because they are more popular. I got mine at Tire Rack.

In general, yes!!! I don't know about Eibach, but H&R advertises that their springs are made for the ML's OEM shocks. However, here's the problem: Assuming you don't have the ML55 with thicker torsion bars, if you lower the front (you have to use the T-Bar for this), the ride will get soft. To regain some firmness up front, you can replace the torsion bars with thicker ones or just update the shocks. I go with shock updating. Also, I have talked to some mechanics and they all recommend to replace the shocks if you lower since the OEM units are matched, especially if you don't do mostly highway driving. At least one member who did the mod w/out shock update, and who drives on bumpy roads has had some issues.

My suggestion (and this is what I'm going with if you don't mind a slightly harsh ride): H&R at the rear, B'Steins at all four corners. I do 98% highway, interstate driving with my ML so hars ride is not an issue. If yoy want some softer ride, stick with the Eibachs. But, please, research the Eibach becasue I have never used them and I can't say for certain how they'll perform on your truck. What year ML do you have?

I forgot to read about the 22" part. If you haven't installed them yet, do so first and gage the ride. It'll be somewhat stiff especially if you're running Lo-Pro tires.. If you feel it's too stiff a ride, then just do the spring upgrade because even Eibachs may have you bouncing all over the place. Gage the ride on those 22 inchers first. B'Steins will be hard on you unless you're mostly h'way driving like me.

I have had the 22's on the truck, and have determined about 1 1/2 inch in the rear and about 1 1/4 in the front. the rear will need to be about a half inch more then the front so it will sit level. i will probably just do the rear springs and adjust the stock torsion bar. is there a DIY on here for adjusting the front torsion bar. how to lower it, its location, tools needed, etc,etc

Look back in Wolfgang's site. He has details on how to do this. Check this Wolgang's reference for instructions: http://www.4x4abc.com/ML320/ml320_torsion.html
BTW, H&R advertises only a 1.25" drop.
