Looking to replace my stock CD/Radio dash

Does anyone have any suggestion what brand that would fit perfect on the ML430?
I'm looking at CD/Mp3 players or maybe DVD.
(if I can bribe my wife :p)

any advise would be great!

Hi,

Any standard DIN size radio will work. I just completed an install of a SONY MP3 DIN player in my 2002 ML302 just last month a not only does it play great but it look good too.

SONY MP3 DIN??? do you have pictures?

Now, did you replace the stock radio you had?
Reason why i ask is, some dealers say that I can't use my 6 disc changer if I alter the radio, is this true?

Hi,

I do not believe the 6 CD changer will work with a Sony. Especially if you have the Fiber Optic System. If you don't have the Fiber Optic System then there might be a way to hot wire the MB (Alpine) CD changer to the Sony radio. But that is a question for the professional car radio installers.

Down here in the South Bay (i.e. San Jose) we have a lot of Car radio installers. I would just go in and ask one in your area to see if it is do-able.

In my case my 2002 ML320 came with the MCS that only had a tape and radio. The Dealer wanted $900.00 USD to install a MB CD changer. I said no way too much money and tossed the MCS in the garbage. So for $350.00 USD I installed a new set of Polk speakers and a Sony DIN MP3 in dash CD player.

I can burn up to 180 MP3 files (songs of about 4 minutes long) on 1 CD giving me up to 10 hours of sound.

Who need a changer?

Good Luck,

Steven---

Talking This is great, thanks for posting the picture

South bay? I live in the south bay, sunnyvale to be exact. Since your also down here, can you recommend me the store/installation you got yours?

I'm with you about cd changer, I was thinking the the same thing. But I was going to keep my stock radio and just buy the iPod and make use of the cassette player. I'm trying to weight it out to see if my wife will go for a new system CD/MP3 player or just buy the iPod and use that as my MP3 player. I can just imagine the wires hanging out though, that's my only concern.

Hey you if you see me around south bay, give me a honk! :p

Just check your profile, you have a pug? We just got a baby girl, 14 weeks.

Hi Tony,

No I have not tossed the MCS unit. It is a B&W screen with AM/FM/Weather/Cassette. I also have the Keys to remove the unit.

Make me an offer and it is yours.

Hi Andaya,

There are 2 decent Radio centers located at StevensCreek and Saratoga (a little high on the price). Also Circuit City just down the street on StevensCreek is a good place.

About the install of my radio, I did it myself. Being an Electrical Engineer working for Cisco I just pulled out my trusty Ohm Meter and reversed Engineer the Radio wiring. Bought the Sony Radio at Circuit City ($250.00) and pick up a set of 5.25 inch Polk speakers from Fry’s for ($100.00, MB did not install the rear speakers). Next I spent a Saturday doing the install. Oh I also bought a DIN pocket (the lower Hole filler) for $17.00.

I will be willing to share with you the wiring codes.
