The answer to that question is NO. That is the purpose of the drain tubes in every corner of the sunroof. No sunroof regardless of veh. make has a perfect seal.

I have a 1999 Merc Elegance E 240. The cowl drain is bkocked and the driver side of the car is flooded with water about 5cm deep. I sucked the water out and left al the doors open for a day, BUT HOW DO I UNBLOCK the cowl drain

Bingo!
Thanks Maj. Dundee,
I had passenger side leaking so I pulled off the post cover, detached the visor and passenger side entry handle above the door. I then peeled the roofing material back (do this gently!) and was able to see the nipple and realized that the hose was detached. I blew the hose out with a garden hose and then reconnected with a 3/4" hose clamp - it was tough to tighten, a short slot driver will help. No leaks!
Much appreciated as originally I thought it was the windshield as we had it replaced not too longer ago.

I have the same problem, water leak inside the passenger side. Reading the posts, I decided to plug the entrance from the sunroof to prevent any water going in from there but did not help. Yesterday it rained and the floor was flooded. I checked to make sure that the plug was in place and saw some water around the groove. As soon as I pulled the plug, water drained below so I guess this indicates that my leak is not from the roof hose? Any comments are much welcome.

My '99 M320 is also currenting suffering from a water leak. First thing the dealer said was sunroof drain tube most likely. Took it in today, they had it for around an hour and simply came back with its not that, we will need it for a day for diagnosis. Thats going to cost.
The water is actually coming in through the dash. It only leaks when it rains. It is leaking out of one of the screw holes in the bottom of the dash into the drives side footwell. Does that ring a bell with anyone?
I was going to attempt diagnosis myself. I haven't taken the dash off yet, but I presume there are electrics in the area and wondered if it should even be driven at the moment as we are experiencing bad weather. Can anyone advise?

1 of 2 issues, or both.
1) The drain hole at the front of 2 corners of the sunroof, each have a drain hose connected to it. That friction fit connection, over time, shrinks, due to aging and pulls away. It needs to be reconnected so that the rain water drains thru the hose and not down the A-pillar (next to your windshield). This can be inspected by disassembling the area just above your head along the edge of the door opening and behind the grab handle.
2) the drain hose is clogged with debris and is backing up and out and running down the A-pillar and into the cabin area and footwells.
You will want to get this resolved quickly, otherwise, you will eventually experience electrical issues (with the wiring on the floor boards and any secondary fuse boxes along the foot-well kick panels.
