Need feedback on 2000 ML320

Hi guys,
I'm new to the site. My friend just bought a 2000 ML320 with 80K miles from carmax. He's got 3 more days to return the car. He paid $14K for it. We ran a carfax and it turned out fine.

So since he's kinda strapped for cash he wants to make sure he's getting a good car. What do you guys think of that model year?

Anything specific he should get checked out before his time is up?

He has some issues with the sunroof already but pretty minor and they're gonna get it fixed.

Any service that is going to be required around the 80K mark?

I've heard some transmission issues around 100K, how much would repair on something like that cost? Replacement?

Any mods you guys would recommend?

Thanks

Thats a pretty early ML and its now 7 to 8 years old. If he is strapped for cash he should take it back and purchase something he can afford to maintain. If the car is up to date and the previous owners have maintained it correctly there is only a slight risk of a major failure but there is a risk. As for the 80K service its pretty much a routine inspection oil change/filters/etc. The inspection is impotant so do not blow that off. At a dealer it should cost only 300 to 600 bucks if they do not find anything perhaps a few dollars less if he cheaps out and goes to an independent. However, as I said before if he is strapped for cash he bought the wrong vehicle.

I used to have a 98 ML320, ran it up to 100k + mark and it was perfect no problems, just make sure its been properly maintained.

ml320 & c240
Proper maintenance is a key factor and since you do not know the history of the vehicle I"ll say you are taking a risk. Now on the flip side I've had my ml320 year 2000 for the past 4 years it is at 82k apart from changing my cps and regular inspection and oil change I have no problems. Still runs great I have no intentions of getting rid of it anytime soon.
