Ml430 Maf

First time poster here.........many months ago my check engine came on, and the dealer said I need a new MAF. I have cleaned it twice. Check engine light is still on........and it runs fine. I took it to get inspected yesterday at some oil change joint, and the the yahoo wouldn't pass it because the engine light is still on, and he said the fault codes are P170 and P173. If it's running fine, could the MAF still be bad, or can the light be reset? Thanks.

Yep - you're MAF is bad. My C43 'threw' those as well...easy job. I got mine for under $200 shipped on the 'bay' - ten minute job.

ML430 Oxygen sensor

My check engine light ended up going off today, so I took it back to complete the inspection. The guy said it still reads on the diagnostic the code for "Fuel trim malfunction bank 1 and bank 2." I called someone at the dealer and they said it's probably the oxygen sensor...............I see online they're pretty cheap.............but could someone tell me where it is? Thanks.

For lack of a better term, the MAF is gonna be the first electronic contraption after the air filter. It's going to have a plug, with two torx bits. My C43 threw the SAME exact codes, i.e. P0170, and P0173, fuel trim - left and right right banks, respectively - so it's gonna be the Mass Air Flow Meter, without a doubt.

Before you start ponnying up money for a new one, if it was cleaned correctly, the light will go off over several miles of driving. The MAF is a "statistical" sensor of sorts and it works based on accumulated data. It will not go off immediately even if you install a new sensor - and not have it reset. So, either you get it reset or just wait a few hundred miles. Of course, if the problem was not the MAF hardware itself, YES, the CEL will come on due to other non MAF related problems. That's one reason I always advice to have a dealer (or qualified MB shop) perform these diagnostics first before you doing the work.
