where's the noise coming from?
I have a '99 ML 430 with a grinding/ticking noise coming from around the rear passenger footwell. It is more noticeable at slower speeds and when turning. My first guess would be the transfer case but I am unfamiliar with MBs. I am going to be taking it in for service for the noise and a broken window switch...anything else I should look at before taking it in?

Mine had a similar thing, they said it was the torsionbars needing greasing. They did and the noise was gone for a month. The clicking is gone now, but a new noise has come, more like a cricking sound. They are taking a look at it now.
Unless you are under warranty that will be $200 for greasing, since they will remove the torsion bars.

thanks for the response guys. The sound doens't just click but it actually has a fequency to it, like something turning. I know this cuz the fequency of the sound picks up if i go faster. Well, I take it in tomorrow morning so we'll see then. I'll prb have to take a tech for a short drive to point out the noise. Of course Murphy will probably be there as well....
