Mechanical Engine driven fan... running at startup?

So I just had my engine "viscous fan" replaced, the one thats driven by the belts. Well it used to turn on once the vehicle got hot and would never shut off. So I had it changed and now the new one is spinning everytime at startup but it shuts off once driving for about a minute. Granted it is cold out here so I am not sure what warm weather behavior would be like... does your ML do this? I'm concerned that the fan shouldn't be running in cold weather startups, I don't think it ever did it before. This is a 99 ML320 in cold boston btw.

i don't think it's something to worry about, if anything it just wants to air out the ice before you take it for a spin. my porsche does the same thing believe it or not, the fan works everytime when it's cold, then shuts off after it is running temp.

Just replaced my clutch fan. Wow what a difference. I was kinda getting use to the noise. LOL Mine works just like yours now. Only on startup for a minute or so. NORMAL operation.
