Child Lock on the rear doors..

Child Lock on the rear doors..
I have a 99 ML 320 with about 55k miles (yep..no typo!).
My wife called me up today in a panic mode, complaining that the rear door popped open while she was driving. I am very sure that my kid did it (of course, the 4 year old does not want to accept it!) but:
1. If my kid did not do it, is voluntary opening of a rear door something heard of, or happened before to anyone's knowledge?
2. Is there a child lock in there (I could not locate it) like any other normal vehicle rolling out since the 90s.
