1999 Ml 430?

I'm new to the MB world, having owned several BMWs in the recent past. I am considering a 1999 ML 430 for my wife and new baby Are there any issues with this year and model that I should be concerned with? I don't know much about this vehicle other than its reputation for safety. Any input or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot for your time.

hey JAD, I would purchase a 2001 at minimum. This is the year that MB seemed to really get their act together and the truck began to be more reliable and have upgraded materials. If you can't afford a 2001 look for a 2000, the 2000 has most of the upgrades. I would shy away from a 1998 or 1999, these years had more problems, however I do own an 99 and think its great but I would rather have a 2000 or higher because of the vast improvements they made. Good luck with your purchase!

What type of problems did the 99's have? Anything major? I can't really afford a 2000 (unless its a 2000 ML 320) and the 99 ML 430's seem to be in my price range so that is what I am looking at. If they have major problems than I'll forget it (and go with a Lexus RX 300), but if you can elaborate I'd appreciate it.

I have a buddy that owned a '99 and he has driven my 2001 and his claim is simpy that there is better sound deadening in my car as well as better overall isolation. He swore by his '99 and it served him well. To my knowledge, no mechanical issues or safety issues of concern.

The 98 and 99's had electrical problems. The car render the key useless. Stay away from the 98 and 99's. Like Alboston said, get at least a 2000.
