Modernizing a 2000 - ML430
I have owned a ML430 since 2000 and it has generally been a good vehicle. However, when compared to more modern performance SUVs it feel a little too tippy and rides very trucky...even more than I recall. I am wondering if the shocks or bushings are in need of an upgrade.
Is there good way to improve the handling without making it significantly harsher riding. I like sporty rides (C63 on order), but I am afraid the build quality of the ML makes road irregularities sound like the car is coming to pieces. The vehicle has definitely loosened up over time. Sad to say, but I do not feel it is as solidly built as an X5.
Basically, I am looking to improve the vehichle over time (project car) and if it is possible to make it bearable (tighter), I may keep it as my run-about/utility vehicle. The resale value is so low, it seems like if it could be improved, it may be a better value to keep it.
Has any one done suspension work to their ML to improve handling or try to modernize their ML? Not looking to make it a race car, just make it ride like later MY ML where the suspension was greatly improved.
