Post Designation of Models

Does anyone know why Mercedes-Benz designates models with the new 3.7 liter V6 motor as 350's instead of 370's (e.g., ML350)?

2002 ML320
I'm not sure about why - I haven't seen any concrete reason for the naming as 350 rather than 370 - but I believe it may be because historically certain Mercedes models have been named 350's, and I can't recall there being any MB 370's, so it may just be tradition.

ML350
Regardless of what they call it, it is far superior to the 320. I picked up my new '03 350 yesterday (with M2, M5, M7, heated seats, and BOSE). MB bought my '01 back because I complained enough.

The 350 is smoother, faster, and seems to handle better. It may be because it is new, but in any case it seems better so far.

Much to my dismay, however, the left reading light button on the dimming mirror doesn't function very well. I hope this isn't the beginning of another crappy car. Only time will tell......

2003 ML350 Inspiration Edition, 2002 Suburban
Dear Steve 777:

Thanks for your notes about the comparative quality of the ML350 to the ML320. I hope others will comment as well. I bought my new 2003 ML350 Inspiration Edition even after reading the many, many comments in several sources of the plethora of problems plaguing the M-Class since its introduction. I first drove a 2003 ML320, but found it lacking in "get up and go" and in ride quality (much too soft). I then drove a 2003 ML350 Inspiration Edition. The zip and the firm ride where both there in spades! The larger, more powerful motor and the wider wheels and tires both make a great difference in the character of the ML350 Inspiration Edition. In three weeks and 1500 miles, I have found no rattles, no squeaks, and nothing that doesn't work as it was designed to. And it handles, goes, and has a turning radius nearly identical to my 1997 E320. Plus it can carry all of the accoutrement necessary to transport twin infants, unlike the E-Class. I am very happy with the purchase of the M-Class, and look forward to hearing from other M-Class owners who have not experienced the horrors elaborated on by so many others.
