Rear Wheel Bearing or CV Joint failure?

Rear Wheel Bearing or CV Joint failure?
I'm usually on the Rennlist post for my Porsche, but I've just developed a problem with my '98 ML320 W163 - 110K miles, owned since new.
Seems like the squeeking noise I've been hearing is not from the Bilstein shocks installed 10k miles ago. Today, the car has a very rough vibration at 50-55mph coming from the Left Rear wheel - wheel bolts are tight and tire pressure is 36psi at both rears. The Rumble / Grind noise seems to be either the Hub Wheel Bearing or maybe the drive axle CV joint. As I just broke my left wrist, it's no longer a DIY option, so my questions are:
1. If it is rear wheel bearings - should I have BOTH sides replaced now while it is up on a hoist?
2. If it is CV joints - should I have BOTH sides replaced now while it is up on a hoist?
3. Time and Cost estimate for either option?
Wheels and wheel hub/brake rotor are still staying just "warm", so no imminent failure, but I will take the ML off the road now. Slight "acrid" smell coming from the LR wheel though.
Thanks to all in advance!
Fortunately I have another vehicle to use during the layup, so I'll wait to hear from members.

Do rear wheels on the ML have CV joints?
I thought CV joints were only needed for wheels that could be steered..i.e. the fronts...

If you need any of the rear axles, hubs, etc let me know. I am parting out my 2000 ml55 and it may be an option for you rather than having to pay the crazy labor for doing wheel bearings or getting new parts.
However as was said....wheel bearing failures usually sound like a loud whirring noise that goes away when you turn in the direction of the problem. CV joints are where the axle connects to the hub which essentially can mean you need new axles...
