ML350 Lunging Forward
Twice today the ML350 when coming to a stop has lunged forward. First time it went completely over the parking curb and onto the sidewalk. Then later tonight when coming to a stop sign. Both times the vehicle was in drive and stayed running. My wife does not remember if the engine RPM's came up or not. It has not happened before today and nothing has happened to it lately. I took it out for a spin and put the brakes on and hit the gas it the brakes held. So not sure what it could be, it figures it would happen just after the warranty expires. It is a 2003 ML350 with 55K miles on it.
Any ideas????
Also it does not lock the doors when you drive off like my 98 ML320 did, does anyone know if this is something that I can set?

As for the surging and running up on the sidewalk. I guess anythings possible but sounds to me like perhaps your wife either was confused and hit the gas or, maybe she was wearing heels and got her feet tangled up, hitting the gas. If it makes you feel better have it checked by the dealer. Had she had her foot on the brake it would have stopped regardless of how much it surged.

Yea I asked her about possible hitting the gas pedal or her shoe pressing on it at the same time. The first time it happened she has someone with her and they both swear that she did not hit the gas pedal. The 2nd time she was alone and she said she was not wearing the same shoes and she was making sure her foot was not on/near the gas pedal. I had someone mention the torque converter locking up, but I am not a mechanic. Does that sound viable. I am probably going to take it to the dealer this weekend and see if they can find anything.
I will check and see about the door locks using the menu, thanks for the tip.
