Does anyone have a transmisson problem on their ML? I do!

For some reason, my car shifts very harshly from 1st gear to 2nd gear. The car rattles and jolts for a few seconds and smooths off. Although it doesn't happen every time but I am worried whether if the car has a problem that needs to be fixed. Anyone have any suggestions to how I should address this issue to the dealer?

The 1-2 shift should be relatively smooth, even on cold days. Based on your explanation, YES you do have a tranny problem. I hope the truck in still under warranty 'cause it could be an expensive fix!!

Have it checked out

I have been down this road twice in the past 6 months. What you describe is not "normal", when functioning correctly the tranny gives solid, smooth shifts regardless of temp. The last time on mine was a relay which was not as expensive as a tranny swap. At least have the dealer plug in and check for fault codes. Other option would be the "click heals together three times"

jtse,

I have the same problem with mine. I have taken it to the dealer 4 times for that problem and they keep telling me that they cannot duplicate the problem. It also does it when I downshift with the touch-shifter and also it hesitates when I put it in reverse. I have learned to live with it.

I had the same problem and was told they replaced the ECU that controlled the tranny. Corrected the problem and has not returned.

similar problem with transmission

Dealer erased the fault codes first and then bite in and replaced the whole transmission. it was worse then before and a truck stopped in gear. They towed it in and said to me later that a rebuilt tranny came w/.o filter and this caused some problems.
ANyway it is fixed and same new.

but the tranny was generally good just they computer showed too much wear. It would have ran fine for a long time, an another 40k miles for sure, but it is expensive to fix and was under warranty. Besides a transmission should last 150k miles in the newer cars !

My gearbox vibrates at around 3200 RPM, I've asked my dealer to check it out three times, and they say the same thing every time..... "Series standard", "We'll check it next service"
