Thule / Yakima Racks Info needed ~advice needed?

hey guys,

Snow season is coming up and I figured this would be the year I finally get a rack for my car.

I was on the Thule site and it's pretty confusing. After I select my car, they ask if the car is equiped with factory rack?

My car is a 1999 ML and it has the two tie down rails that run front to back - but it seems Thule needs a cross-bar rack too?

I got this list of parts:

450 Crossroad $159.00
LB58 Load Bars $69.00
91726 Universal PullTop6 $199

Do I really need all 3 parts to complete my rack?

Looking to buy a simple rack setup if anyone is selling there , PM ME!

Racks for MLs indeed mount to the side rails.

Then, accessories mount to the rack.

You've listed what you indeed require.

Mercedes dealers sell crossbars, too.

There's no such thing as a basket or box or bike carrier or ski rack that uses only the side rails.

ML55 AMG
The Thule rack I have for my ML55 is a "clamp" style. It is used for the MB SUV's as well as the Honda Odessey MV's...it is adjustable for width and uses a simple screw on lock down (with a key) type clamp.

Yakima DOES NOT make one....only Thule to the best of my knowledge. It is the square bar type and all Thule attachemnets can be applied...as a matter of fact all Yakima can be retrofitted with special fittings to fit Thule and vice versa...

Good luck
