INSTRUMENT GAUGES TAPPING

I’m new here and have gotten a lot of useful information. I thank all of you for that.
I have a problem that I have not seen posted. When I turn the key to the run position the speedometer gauge vibrates very rapidly between 0 and 5 MPH, like a drum roll. This last for about 5 seconds than it stops. The other gauges stay at 0 until the tapping stops then they jump to the normal position for tach, fuel and temp. Every thing seems to work fine from then on. This also happens when I turn the car off. By the way, my vehicle is a 00 ML430 with 227,000 mile. I love this truck.
Thanks for any help.

The rapid movement is not correct but it will move up and then down once. If your speedo is working I would ignore the issue until the speedo stops working. Expense to correct could be high and with all those miles on an old truck I would just ignore it.

Thanks for the response, Sosh.
That is what I am waiting for. I also noticed that it is affected by temperature. If it is very cold, it dose not move very much. If it is hot, the movement is more exaggerated.
