Remote hatch button

Hi All,

I've noticed that when I press the hatch release button (I'm holding it down for a while) that nothing works. Its doesn't unlock nor does it open the hatch. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

Thanks,

I assume you are asking about the button on the key fob remote. This button unlocks the hatch only. If the hatch is unlocked it will do nothing. The hatch will also unlock by pressing the door unlock twice. By doing that all doors unlock along with the hatch. Only thing you are doing by holding it down is depleting the battery in the remote.

Hi Sosh,

Thanks for your reply.

Maybe I should clarify, when the car is locked, I press the hatch release on the key fob and I get nothing, it doesn't unlock the hatch nor do I hear the clicking sound of the lock. I'm assuming this isn't normal and I just wanted to see if this was a known problem.

Thanks again.

Sorry I misunderstood your post. If the vehicle is locked and the hatch button does not unlock it when pressed there certainly is something wrong. Don't believe its a wide spread problem. I have never had it occurr with my 98 or my 02 ML's. There was some postings some time ago about the rear lock mechanism failing but with that failure the hatch would not lock or unlock from the consol button or the remote. You are warrantied, put that on your list

Hi Sosh,

Thanks again for your inputs. I will contact my dealer to get this resolve.

Have you tried unlocking just the driver's door, then unlocking the hatch Then again, you shouldn't have to do that!

I had this problem with my '98 320. There was a problem with most of the hatchlocks on this year. The last problem was that they tightened the lock so much, that it wasn't even locking anymore. -- It didn't rattle though. A trip to the dealer is the right thing in this case.
