Anyone did their own engine mount swap on a V8 ML?
is it 100% possible to accomplish the job with just basic tools and a 3 ton floor jack(without engine lift) ?

Please advice
I'm pulling the engine/trans in my 55 that I'm parting out. It appears that you could do the mounts without a hoist but I would be careful. You will need to lift the engine at least several inches to clear the mount. OR you could try to just disconnect the mount from the side of the block and should be able to do it that way. I would recommend a hoist since with a jack to lift the motor you risk damaging the oil pan and such on the bottom....

what about jacking it up one side before another ? Since our engine's are V8 longitudinally placed, it twist that way. ?? need help from DIY'ers !

Here is the problem you MAY run into. by trying to twist it you have to remember that the transmission/transfer case unit is bolted down pretty good. As such you could risk ripping that mount or it not twisting enough. You have to lift the engine at least 2" to clear the bolt on the motor mount on the top. If you had the means to do it I would suggest trying to remove the mount unit from the side of the block. Once you did that you could then remove the mount itself and not have to move the motor at all. It SHOULD work and you could simply support the engine lightly with a jack on each side as you said.
After pulling the motor last night...trust me it isn't fun to pull the whole thing, if you ever have to just be sure that you pull off the transfer case because it will NOT fit through the trans tunnel.
Yes it can be done with the engine installed and a floor jack. You have to really crank on it though. Remember the old mounts will come out much easier, due to the rubber being compressed.
I replaced engine and tranny mount in my driveway with simple hydrolic jack and some pieces of 2x4 i had laying around. You have to raise engine as much as you can to get mounts out. Even with engine jacked up high, I couldn't install new mounts. So I just unbolted mount holder off the motor, install motor mount into it, and reinstalled whole assembly back. There are around 8 bolts holding motor mount holder to motor. It took me about 2.5 hours to do both sides and it's totally doable on the street with simple jack. My mounts were ripped apart badly.
Good luck
