Extra Bulb?

I purchased a CLK on tuesday and they were telling me that my parents car (1998 ML) has room for an additional bulb in the headlights that is never used.

I was very sceptical about this, but I figured I would ask the experts here on the BB for the real answer.

Thanks in advanced!

It's for the foglights

There's an empty socket in the lower inner corners for foglights. It's already wired to the switch on the dash. Problem is, it requires the dealer to enable the switch via the computer to make them work. They're not legal in the US (too high off the ground for foglight rules in this country) and the dealer probably won't agree to do it.

Extra bulb in ML

I had the dealer turn on the fog light relay when I got my PIAA fog /driving light combo and the 3rd socket and the PIAA fog came on with the fog light switch on the dash for a total of ten forward facing bulbs. 2 low beam, 2 factory fogs (extra sockets in assembly), 2 PIAA fogs all on with low beam/fog combo=6 lamps. I also had the driving (narrow spotlight) wired to come on with the high beams=4 lamps. The only real problem was mounting them. I had a bar welded to the frame to allow them to be attached. FYI the PIAA kit is the PRO XT90 if you are interested.
