Lease replacement, how friendly?

I have a 2002 ML 500 lease with 1 year down. I'm headed to b-school and I think about saving some money (lease and gas). I hate to give up the ML since it's not perfect but a fun car, except for the horrendous gas mileage in this environment.

How friendly are MB dealers in replacing a lease for another MB vehicle, especially half-way through a lease? I would replace for something with lower monthly, such as ML350 or perhaps a C wagon.

Any experiences on this with MB Manhattan?

While here, what's the typical depreciation on ML 500 when trading in for other cars such as bmw, lexus, volvo, etc?

any tips appreciated, thx,

Your pay off is pretty much cut in stone by your lease holder and is not controlled by the dealer. Since you are no where near the end of the lease be prepared to pay lots more than the car is worth on the market. If its with MBCC they will not negotiate like a few of the leasing companies still do. Any "deal" offered by your dealer will most likely be smoke and mirrors!
