Sunroof Weatherseal Replacement
When I take my ML430 through the car wash, the sunroof leaks under high water pressure. I checked my drain holes and determined they are working just fine. The problem is that the weather seal (felt and rubber strip wrapped around the sunroof glass has degraded somewhat, leaving a gap big enough to allows water to get into the cabin).
The part costs $153 but for the life of me can not find instructions on how to install it.
Any ideas?
I don't understand what caused the roof pan to rust -- apparently this is extremely rare. Dealership wants over $1K just for the part. I might try to get a used one, since they don't seem to go bad that often. The real issue then is the size of the repair job to replace it. You have to drop the headliner to replace the pan (and to replace the rubber seal around the roof panel). To drop the headliner means dropping the coverings at all 6 posts as well. There is a post here somewhere about how to drop the headliner -- I printed it out in case I work up the nerve to tackle this job one weekend. It looks like it would take me a day or two. Ugh!
