Unhappy New brakes needed!!

I just left the MB dealer (Foreign Motors West) in Natick MA. I was told that I needed new brakes and rotors at 44k miles. I was quoted $1100.00 US for front and rear, rotors and pads. Does this sound right ????

Anything is possible but that's unlikely.

With that mileage I would think you may need new front pads only. No rear pads and certainly no new rotors at all.

That is what I thought

The previous owner did new pads at 24k miles all around. Why would I need rotors? I will take the MB to a local shop for a look.

Thanks,

Stewart

Sorry eyedocml320, but you probably do need...

new rotors and pads. This is because MB in their wisdom have designed the rotors to only last thru' two sets of pads. As you noted the original owner changed the pads at 24,000 and now you have to change them again at roughly the same interval, so your rotors will be worn down to minimum and need chainging.

But you're getting gouged at $1100. It's a simple diy job for both the rotors & pads.

Pads should cost you no more than say $150 for all 4 wheels and a set of rotors is $240 ish. Check out exact prices at Germanstar.com

Stewart,
Sounds like you may need pads and rotors. I based my opinion on my experience with my 1999 ML 320. I changed front brake pads only at 48K miles and I just changed my rear pads last week at 72k miles.

Your vehicle must really be hard on pads.

As far as getting parts I get them from Phillips a Mercedes dealer in Virginia Beach. They do a huge mail order business and have very good prices. # is 800-613-7278
