2001 ML320
Persistent Cyl #1 Misfire

I have a 2001 ML320 with 122K. At 99K I changed the plugs using the procedure recommended here on the forum (great advice!) as the engine was running rough. I did not chage the wires at that time. The car ran smooth but within a week, in started running rough again. I ordered a set of wires from Autohaus and that did the trick. Then at 120k I would get an ocassional skip and a CEL. It said cyl #1 misfire. However, if you turned the car off and restated it, the skip would go away and eventually so would the CEL. This happens almost daily now, especaily in the am when cold. So I changed the coil pack on the #1 cyl. No improvement. I'm now thinking it may be a sticky injector. Going to try the fuel cleaner idea first but what do you think about the injector idea? It does clear itself after a restart or two and is usually good all day Oh, I'm here in Connecticut and it happens both winter and summer. One more thing..I do use regular gas..even the dealer advised it was OK..not recommended by the factory but would not hurt the engine. I did run prem from new to about 70k.
