2002 ml 320
Post Driveline vibration.

I own a ML 320 2002, 165,000 miles. It has develped a vibration that I believe is coming from the driveline.

I have had the vibration for a while. The vibration becomes noticable at 40 Mph and continues to 85MPH. The steering wheel does not vibrate.

The Carrier bearing, motor mounts were replaced, and the driveshafts were balanced . The vehicle has had two sets of tires. The rims have been checked for run out. The wheel bearings have been checked. The Transfer fluid and transmission fliud have been changed.

Today, I put the vehicle in low range and drove 5 miles. The vibration seems to be gone.

Does this indicate a bearing problem in the transfercase?

any thoughts?

Drive Line Vibration

Ok I have searched all over the internet as to why my 2000 ml320 "was" shaking on accelerate. Symptoms included moderate shaking felt in steering wheel mostly in speeds between 10-45 while giving the gas, higher speeds the vibrations would smooth out. My fear was the worst, transmission, transfer case, etc. I proceeded to remove the front drive shaft, the one connecting to the front differential and discovered that the bearing connected to drive shaft (surrounded by a rubber boot was seized. Rather than just putting it back on I first sprayed it with wd40 and then oiled it very well with some lucas synthetic. My ml320 drives like a da** BRAND NEW ONE! GOSH WHAT A RELIEF... Not sure how long it will last so I am in the process of ordering a new drive shaft since it appears to be impossible for me to replace that bearing. Hope this helps some other.
