Broken Shock Absorber ML 500

I have a 2002 ML500 with 100,000 miles. Recently I found that the passenger side shock absorber has broken off at the upper mount in the engine bay. I was wondering if this has happened to anyone before? If so is this a normal problem to have?

Additionaly, I recently had an alignment done at the dealership and was wondering if this could have caused the shock mount to fail.

happen to me once on my 99. didnt even know it till I brought it to the shop for an oil change. Then, I was thinking of a moment I went dukes of hazard style off a slight incline. Had to be the moment the shock broke. Luckily it was under warranty so they fixed it.

Was looking online found some Blistiens shocks for $190 and KYB GR-2 for $71 a piece. For the price, does anyone know if the KYB's are anygood?
