ML320 window - motor seems ok but glass wont go up!
Hello all,
My 2001 ML 320 has chosen to misbehave again!! The window glass will not go up. When I press the switch, I hear the motor whirring but the glass does not move up or down. Can some kind person please shed some light on what the causes could be and how I might go about fixing it.
Thanks so much!!!
Bob

His mama. Traded y0 mama in because she was squeaking.
Unfortunately, you're asking questions that I have no reasonable ability to answer honestly.
I don't know what your mechanical aptitude and skills are.
I don't know where you are, so, short of recommending someone locally where I am, I can't recommend someone locally where you are.
I'd take it to a reputable body shop or even a reputable Indy shop. But I'd get a couple more suggestions of what's going from more knowledgeable members here than I, before you start replacing stuff that may not be replaced.
What you described is a general symptom of a bad window crane gear mechanism, but that doesn't mean that's what it is. I only offered that suggestion based on my experience with power windows on other manufacturers' vehicles.

If you can hear the motor running but the glass wont move, the window regulator needs to be replaced. If you cant hear the motor running, on 163 MLs its almost always the switch. But yours definitely sounds like the regulator is broken.
